DGS Event Creator & Dècor, operating under the brand DGS & The Team, is Timor-Leste’s leading event dècor, design, and creative studio. Founded in 2018 by Domingos Gonçalves Barros, DGS was built on a conviction that began long before the business did: that beauty transforms, and that every space, designed with intention, has the power to change how people feel.

Over seven years, DGS has grown from a bold creative vision into the most trusted event studio in Dili, the first call made by couples planning their dream wedding, corporations hosting high-profile galas, and cultural institutions seeking to honor Timorese heritage with world-class presentation. With over 30+ events delivered across the nation, DGS has served everyone from intimate family gatherings to large-scale national celebrations.

Meet the Founder

Domingos Gonçalves Barros

FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Creative entrepreneur and event designer from Dili, Timor-Leste. Trained in marketing management and sharpened through international programs in the United States and Southeast Asia, Domingos brings artistic vision, professional discipline, and deep Timorese roots to every project he leads.

It began long before he understood what design was.

As a child, Domingos was always creating, crafting and sewing, experimenting, turning simple materials into something new. He didn’t call it creativity then. It was simply what he loved to do. But as he grew older, something else emerged: he began noticing spaces differently, how they looked, how they felt, how even the smallest changes could completely transform them. Without realizing it, he was already thinking like a designer.

Every time he made something, he felt a clarity and sense of purpose that was both exciting and uncertain, the kind of feeling that tells you that you’re meant to explore it further.

What draws him to events, dècor, and styling is the same force that moved him as a child: the joy of creating something from nothing. The scale has changed, back then it was a piece of fabric; today it is an entire venue.

The feeling never has. For Domingos, great design is not only about how a space looks. It is about how it lives, how it flows, and how people connect within it. The most rewarding moment in any event is seeing people experience something he once only imagined.

The work found him naturally. And the more he explored it, the more certain he became that this is where his creativity has the strongest impact. It was never just a career path or a business decision. Creativity has always been part of who Domingos is, not simply what he does.

There was a project that changed everything. A client arrived with expectations. Domingos arrived with a deeper vision: not to decorate a space, but to shape an experience, thinking carefully about how people would move through it, and how every detail would connect. Not everything went perfectly. He adapted, trusted his instincts, and stayed focused on the bigger picture. When it came together, the space had a presence that people could feel before they understood why. That was the moment he realized this could be more than a skill, it could become a brand, a business, and something with long-term impact. That is when DGS truly began to take shape.

Selected as a YSEALI Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin and an ASEAN leadership alumnus through the FLBA program in Thailand, Domingos returned to Timor-Leste with a broader vision and a sharper purpose.
